UCSF is committed to supporting the research efforts of the UCSF investigator community through various training efforts.
Investigators who will work with human subjects must complete the CITI Online Human Subjects Protection Training before the Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) gives final approval to a research project. The CHR tracks this online training to document compliance with Federal training requirements. |
The Training in Clinical Research (TICR) program offers a broad array of educational opportunities in the methods of clinical research to meet the diverse needs of trainees, faculty and staff at UCSF. Learners can pursue a master's in clinical research (MAS), a two-year course of study intended for graduate and professional students, clinical residents, post-doctoral fellows, and faculty members who wish to master clinical research methods and pursue independent research careers. A one-year certificate, the Advanced Training in Clinical Research (ATCR) is also available, as well as individual courses. Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) training is required for anyone receiving funding from all major funding agencies (NIH, NSF, DoD). Clinical researchers are encouraged to enroll in the online RCR course presented by the department of epidemiology and biostatistics. This course is held once per year each summer. |
Award verification is UCSF's procedure to support Principal Investigators (PIs) in meeting the requirements of the Uniform Guidance for federal awards. PIs can learn more about the award verification process in this overview from the Controller's Office and the FAQ. |
Individuals engaged in the conduct of a clinical trial (per the NIH definition) must complete a Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training. The study’s Principal Investigator is responsible for identifying the staff that should take the training. Recipients of GCP training are expected to retain documentation of their training which should be refreshed at least every three years in order to stay up to date with regulations, standards, and guidelines. |
The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs offers formal instruction and support to Postdoctoral Fellows in an effort to enhance the training experience at UCSF and promote successful careers in science. It is an information warehouse providing an avenue of communication among Postdoctoral Fellows, Faculty and Administrators. |
Research Conflicts of Interest training addresses the importance of ensuring financial interests do not affect, or appear to affect, the design, conduct of reporting of research or compromise the protection of human subjects. |
The US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Office of Research Integrity (ORI) offers web-based Research Misconduct training and resources to help researchers understand the types of misconduct and how universities handle them. |
Additional Training for Animal Care and Environmental Health & Safety in Research is available online. See the Training tab to view the courses offered and click on the course title to view the course summary. The course title link at the top of the summary will take you into the online class. Access requires a username and password, which can also be requested online. |
The UCSF Library provides training and consultations for the UCSF community on data management, open access and publishing, finding funding, literature reviews, statistical analysis, programming in R and Python and much more. Find upcoming workshops on the Library's calendar |
